Effective Immediately: Update to COVID-19 School and Child Care Screening Tool

Posted On Monday February 22, 2021

As announced earlier today by the Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU), guidelines for the School and Child Care Screening requirements have changed across the province effective immediately. These updates are a result of the new COVID-19 variants that have been detected across the province.

We encourage you to visit the RCDHU Press Release for details, which highlights the following changes:

Single-Symptom Screening

Staff, students and children with even only one symptom, must stay home without exemption, until:

  • They receive a negative COVID-19 test result;
  • They receive an alternative diagnosis by a health care professional; or
  • It has been 10 days since their symptoms started and they are feeling better.

Asymptomatic (no symptoms) household members of symptomatic individuals must: Self isolate, do not leave home, even for essential reasons.

  • All asymptomatic household contacts must also self-isolate without exception, even for essential reasons, until the symptomatic individual receives a negative COVID-19 test result or an alternative diagnosis by a health care professional.
  • If the symptomatic individual does not seek COVID-19 testing, all household contacts must also self-isolate for 14 days from their last contact with that symptomatic individual.

Finally, if you are asymptomatic (no symptoms) and live in the same household as an asymptomatic individual who has been identified by public health as a high-risk contact, you may leave your home for essential work reasons. However, this is only permitted so as long as everyone in your household remains asymptomatic.

If you or your child do not pass the School and Child Care Screening do not go to school or work and call the Renfrew County Virtual Triage and Assessment Centre at 1-844-727-6404 for further guidance on next-steps and to set-up testing.

These updates are now reflected in the provincial School and Child Care Screening.

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we respond to these rapidly evolving changes to COVID-19 protocols. We remain committed to keeping our schools open and safe.
