Bonnechere Algonquin First Nation set to open Childcare Centre at Herman Street Public School in 2023

Posted On Friday December 02, 2022

The Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) is pleased to announce the successful operator for the Herman Street Public School Childcare Facility as the Bonnechere Algonquin First Nation (BAFN). The centre will be officially known as the Bamoonzhe Daycare. In the Algonquin language, Bamoonzhe means “to care for a child”.

Further details on the official facility opening are still in-progress, and the release providing all final details will be shared with our school communities in the coming weeks. In the meantime, parents/guardians are now able to contact the Bamoonzhe Daycare directly to get their names on the waitlist. All staff at the daycare are very eager to help support our Renfrew County families, and to share some Indigenous teachings with them.

As the demand for childcare in the Petawawa area continues to rise, the RCDSB is grateful to the Ministry of Education for their financial commitment to fund this project.
