RCDSB Wi-Fi Statement

The safety and well-being of our students and employees is a priority for the Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB). In response to public discussions about the safety of wireless technology in schools, we've examined the issue in more detail.

Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health has stated that "…wireless communications systems do not pose a public health risk", a finding concurrent with that of the World Health OrganizationIndustry Canada and Health Canada. We continue to defer to the judgement of these officials and agencies when assessing our approach to the use of wireless networks in our school and office environments.

The RCDSB has Wi-Fi technology in all of our schools and administrative buildings. All equipment purchased by the RCDSB meets current Institute of Electric and Electronic Engineers and Department of Communications specifications and Health Canada's Safety Code 6 standards.

The Renfrew County District School Board will continue to follow the guidance and direction given by the relevant and trusted government health organizations.  Should the standards set by these federal and provincial agencies change, the RCDSB will review our use of this technology and respond appropriately.
