Latest Update (March 23, 2020)

The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF/FEESO) is immediately suspending all strike sanctions indefinitely. This includes sanctions that were part of a limited withdrawal of administrative services that has been in place since November 26, 2019. 

The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) has reached tentative central agreements with the Government of Ontario, the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association and the Council of Trustees’ Associations.

Separate tentative central agreements have been negotiated for ETFO’s teacher/occasional teacher and education worker members.

ETFO will review details of its tentative central agreements and ratification vote process with ETFO local leaders and members next week.

ETFO is suspending strike action immediately pending the results of its central ratification votes.


 

The Elementary Teachers' Federation (ETFO) and the Ontario Secondary Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) to Escalate Job Action Effective March 9, 2020

OSSTF and ETFO have announced that they will be escalating work action across the province beginning this week.

This will mean that OSSTF members will not be participating in twenty-five aspects related to their work and role.

The ETFO has announced they will escalate to Phase 7 Job Action Effective Monday, March 9, 2020.

A press conference will be held by the ETFO this afternoon (Monday, March 9, 2020) on what Phase 7 will mean both locally and province-wide. We will keep you updated on this information as soon as we receive it.

Currently, there are no planned strike days affecting the Renfrew County District School Board for the week of March 9.

Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario Escalates to Phase 6 Job Action Effective Wednesday, February 26.

The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) announced that they will be escalating to Phase 6 Work-to-Rule Strike Action starting Wednesday, February 26, 2020.

Currently, there are no planned strike days affecting the Renfrew County District School Board for the week of February 24.

As of this post (3:10 pm on Feb.21), all schools and classes at the RCDSB are running as usual for the week of February 24, 2020.

Today, the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF) announced a one-day rotating strike day for Friday, February 28, 2020. The RCDSB will NOT be impacted by this strike day.

Currently, we have no notice/information from the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) regarding strike days planned for next week. ETFO has announced they are planning on moving to "Phase 6" of Job Action should no agreement be reached, and we expect to receive more information on this by Monday, February 24, 2020.

A reminder that the Federations are required to give a minimum of 5 days strike notice.


The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSFT) will hold a provincial-wide strike day on Friday, February 21, 2020.

All RCDSB schools (elementary and secondary) will be closed to students on Friday, February 21, 2020.

A SchoolMessenger communication will be issued to parents/guardians reminding them of the system closure for the strike day on the evening of Thursday, February 20th.

All Community Use of School Permits will be honoured and there will be no disruption on these strike days.

Before and After Centres and Daycares

During a strike, our school sites remain open and child care facilities located within our schools may continue to operate. Parents/guardians are asked to contact the operator to confirm whether they will remain open and whether they have additional childcare spaces during strike days. 

Community Use Bookings

If you have a Community Use Booking and are scheduled to use a school site during the evening of a strike day, your booking will continue as usual. 

Report Cards

The Renfrew County District School Board will not be releasing report cards for all elementary students at this time, and issuing ‘grade only’ report cards for secondary students.

Teachers will continue to assess and monitor student progress on a daily basis. If parents/guardians wish to discuss their child’s academic progress, they may contact their child’s teacher to discuss their child’s academic status.

Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation members are performing limited tasks within the parameters of a legal work-to-rule campaign. Teachers not writing report card comments and only inputting grades. Semester One report cards for secondary students that provide marks only will be provided on February 14, 2020.
