RCDSB partners with Science North to bring summer STEM camps to Renfrew County
[Pembroke, Ontario] —
The Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) is partnering with Science North to bring summer STEM camps to Champlain Discovery Public School this July and August.
Each camp offers kids hands-on opportunities to explore science, technology, engineering, and math. Campers take part in experiments and activities led by experienced Science North educators and Bluecoats. Themes range from engineering and nature to problem-solving and creative science, and the programming is designed to cultivate curiosity, confidence, and a love of discovery that lasts well beyond the summer.
This summer's lineup at Champlain Discovery PS includes Up Up and Engineer, where older campers build structures and launch rockets, and Jr. Detectives and Perception Deception, where kids dig into forensic science and the tricks our eyes and brains can play on us.
In Gamification of Science, campers design their own board games while learning the math and logic behind game mechanics. Younger children can join Once Upon a Science, where favourite fairy tales become science lessons, or Science Starter, a gentle first introduction to experimenting and building. Bug Safari rounds out the summer with a hands-on look at the insect world.
Science North is proud to continue building on our longstanding relationships with communities in Renfrew County and the Ottawa Valley,
said Ashley Larose, Chief Executive Officer of Science North. We're committed to creating opportunities for young people across the region to discover, explore, and experience science firsthand because we know those moments can spark a lifelong love of learning.
Science North has run summer science camps in communities across Ontario for more than 40 years, with camps offered in English and French in some locations.
This partnership with Science North gives Ottawa Valley youth a fun, hands-on way to spend part of their summer,
said Kristen Niemi, Chief Executive Officer of RCDSB. Whether they are launching rockets, solving science mysteries or designing their own board games, campers are learning by doing, and building confidence along the way.
Science North is providing a number of fully subsidized spots for RCDSB students taking part in this year's camps.
We are thrilled to collaborate with Science North to host their exciting summer day camps at Champlain Discovery Public School this summer,
said Scott Nichol, Superintendent of Education. We greatly appreciate Science North's generosity in providing subsidized spots for some of our students. The RCDSB is proud to support this initiative to help spark curiosity, build confidence and inspire tomorrow's innovators within our school communities.
