Play, Learn and Grow!
Register for Kindergarten at the Renfrew County District School Board!
In RCDSB, Kindergarten supports the whole child through play-based, inquiry-driven learning and focused teaching, guided by the Ontario Kindergarten Curriculum (2026). This learning is supported by a collaborative educator team, made up of a Teacher and Early Childhood Educator (ECE), who work together to foster each child’s growth and development.
Learning is organized around four interconnected strands that support children’s growth and development:
- Belonging and Contributing
- Self-Regulation and Well-Being
- Demonstrating Literacy and Mathematics Behaviours
- Problem Solving and Innovating
Children build strong foundations in literacy, mathematics, well-being, and a sense of belonging through rich, connected learning experiences across the day.
Learning takes place in both indoor and outdoor environments through:
- play and exploration
- inquiry-based learning connected to everyday experiences
- intentional and explicit teaching
Educator teams bring complementary expertise in child development, play-based learning, and instruction. They design experiences that are responsive to children’s interests while also ensuring focused instruction in literacy and mathematics. Through their collaborative planning and shared understanding of each child, they create consistent, supportive, and engaging learning environments.
Children have regular opportunities to practice and apply their learning through play, exploration, and everyday interactions.
Outdoor learning is an important part of the Kindergarten experience, supporting physical development, curiosity, problem-solving, overall wellbeing and connection to the environment.
